The Governing Council of the Cabildo de El Hierro has approved today Wednesday, December 30, the first aid of its calls for direct subsidies for the reactivation of the island economy in the face of the impact caused by Covid 19 and for the implementation of projects businesses in 2020, both launched by the Institution's Economy and Employment area.
In the case of the aid proposed to alleviate the effects of the Covid among the business fabric of El Hierro, 60 files have been resolved today out of a total of 283 applications submitted for an amount of 205,500 euros, according to the Minister of Economy and employment, Melissa Armas.
Armas recalls that this subsidy was born to support the self-employed and SMEs with the aim of alleviating the impact produced by COVID-19, after seeing their economic activity suspended or a reduction in their billing. "The aid is intended to meet operating costs and that can exceed and continue to be active after the alarm period."
The counselor informs that her department continues to work intensely so that the rest of the requests presented to this helpline can be resolved very soon, until the 283 files in progress are completed.
Regarding the subsidies for the start-up of new business projects in El Hierro, a total of 11 applications have been today (one has been rejected) for an amount of 35,500 euros, of the 20 presented. "The remaining, 8 in total, are pending to continue their administrative process once they finish submitting additional documentation that has been required," reports Melissa Armas.
“With these aid we intend to favor SMEs and micro-SMEs, which are the main sources of job creation and wealth on the island. We have conceived them as a stimulus tool for the creation of new jobs, favor the hiring of unemployed people and contribute to the reactivation of the island economy, reducing unemployment ”, she declares.
